It has impacted our core metrics quite a lot as [they] have developed significantly over the last 7 years since we started to using the software, the metrics were very simple, very vague, whereas today, they go down to the very fine detail of, for example, how far we are allowing points to be out of spec at certain points in the program, so yeah we’ve come a long way in 7 years.

Laurence Allmark
Senior Product Quality Engineer, McLaren Automotive

“The software I use is predominantly QDM WEB, and I use it to review data for assembly level and use it to mature our quality looking at trend charts, performance over time, predominantly using run charts. The greatest advantage of using the QDM software is that it is all in one place whether it is single panel assembly, supplier data, or own data, it is all there at my fingertips with just a couple of clicks.”

Maturation Engineer, Jaguar Land Rover

It is more about our customers when you present them the overall product. Obviously the demands from them are really high, and they ask why you are not able to fulfil that thing or that tolerance and I can show them; these are all my inputs, these are the process tolerances, the part tolerances, everything and now you ask me the overall tolerance should be plus or minus .3, for example and you see all the inputs are together plus or minus whatever, and you can see what all the contributions of all those processes and part tolerances and we can discuss those, and it is definitely a much better discussion than without those things.

Vladimir Till
Dimensional Engineer, Hella

“We were utilizing old basic Excel methods of calculation to ensure vehicle fitting quality. Our team was responsible for developing the plans and analyzing how well our parts are going to fit for the completed vehicle.

We were running into issues where there were really many complex structures and geometries that need better analysis and tools to really assess if we’re going to have issues or not.

And so, we’ve really just started to step into utilizing 3DCS.

For us, its really about ensuring the quality that we need to meet for our customers.”

Ryan Shannon
Dimensional Engineer, Toyota North America

“In a typical section of an A320 Family Aircraft, roughly 90 stringer couplings are installed. Around 2/3 can be covered with the parametric model (this equals 60...couplings.

In the A319, A320 there are 4 section joints, while the A321 has 6. One parametrical model can then cover 180 assembly situations.

Aerospace Engineer, AIRBUS
